THREE soldiers were killed and a dozen others were wounded in an ambush by communist rebels at a village in Kalinga last Monday, police reported.
The troops, from the Army’s 51st Division Reconnaissance Companies and 50th Infantry Battalion, were returning to their base after a combat mission when one of their vehicles was hit by an improvised bomb in Barangay Apatan, Pinukpuk town.
The rebels, who were lying in wait above a retaining wall beside the road, then opened fire on the soldiers. The soldiers fought back and the shooting lasted for two hours, police said.
Killed were Private First Class Bryan Massagan and Sergeants Benjie Palliw and Daryl Amiling.
Wounded were Privates First Class Lunes Ambatang, Ryan Guerrero, Jose Gayudan, Reymond Vasquez, Jomar Gammad, Guilbert Ramirez, Nestor Roque Jr., Dante Mauricio, Henry Coloma, Richard Bartolome, Johnson Carig and Corporal Diony Patacsil.
