THE Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) arrested 3,646 jaywalkers since the Anti-Jaywalking Ordinance has been implemented last December 1, 2016.
CTTMO head retired Superintendent Rhodelio Poliquit said the number of men and women arrested for violating the ordinance are almost the same, adding that most of the violators were students and employees.
Poliquit also said there were also some foreign nationals brought to their office for jaywalking.
"So far, after the ordinance has been implemented last month, nakakahuli na lang kami (we can arrest) about 15 to 25 violators a day, depende sa area yan (depending on the area). Karamihan nahuhuli sa may Bajada at Matina (Most of the violators were caught at Bajada and Matina)," Poliquit said.
Jaywalkers will be given a citation ticket and are obliged to undergo a one-hour seminar at CTTMO Compound at S.I.R in Matina, Davao City every Friday.
Poliquit said the office intensified its drive against jaywalkers on the city's major thoroughfares to discipline the public and ensure their safety while crossing the streets.
Areas usually being monitored by traffic enforcers are those with existing pedestrian lanes and overpasses like in Matina Crossing, Quimpo Boulevard, J.P Laurel, Mc Arthur Highway and Maa.
