4-day football tryouts slated

THE Philippine Football Federation (PFF), through the Davao Regional Association (DRFA), will hold football tryouts slated January 28 to 29 and on February 11 to 12 in Davao City.

DRFA Technical Director Albert Ryan Lim, during a coaches meeting Tuesday, January 24, at the Rizal Memorial Colleges sports office, said the selected athletes from the tryouts will represent the region to the 2017 Regional Festival of Football on March 3 to 5 in Bukidnon City.

“We will choose 18 players from boys under 15 as well as 18 from the girls under 15. We will also select 16 boys and girls under-13 players,” Lim said, adding that the tryouts are open to all interested schools and teams.

Davao's veteran coaches Jose Maria Cabalfin, Imardino Polo, Ruel Sasuman, Kevin Rondel Yatan, Analou Ingles, Michelle Alfeche Javellana, Keith Shelly Canton, Ronoel Garfin, and Dean Mark Galleto will facilitate the tryouts.

Lim added that four regions will compete in the single round-robin regional meet including DRFA, Bukidnon Football Association, Iligan Lanao del Norte Football Association and Cagayan Misamis-Oriental Football Association.

“All of the expenses from the tryouts to the regionals will be subsidized by the PFF,” Lim promised.

The PFF will also select some outstanding athletes from the regionals to represent the country to the upcoming Asia Football Confederation (AFC) Festival in May.

Lim said the selection for the AFC Festival will be spearheaded by PFF national coaches.
