HUNDREDS of young woodpushers will see action this weekend in the Negros Island Chess Aficionado (Nica)-organized 4th Circle “K” International 14 Under Kiddies Chess Championship at Ayala North The District mall in Talisay City.
The seven-round Swiss System event aims to discover, develop and nurture potential talents as well as hone their skills through various Nica-organized tournaments.
The champion will receive a cash prize of P2,000; first runner-up, P1,500; and second runner-up, P1,000. Winners will also get trophies, medals and certificates.
The third runner-up will take home P700 and the fourth runner-up, P500. A P300 incentive will also be given to players who will finish from fifth to ninth; P250 for those will place 10th to 14th spots; and P200, 15th to 25th places. All the finishers will also receive medals and certificates.
Players are instructed to bring their own chess clocks and chess boards.(HGD)
