THE five Cebuano hopefuls start their road for a slot at the RP National Under-16 Girls team with a three-day training camp this weekend.
St. Theresa’s College’s (STC) Jan Reese Jumawan and Alexa Ceniza and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Arantxa Trebol, Pia Acusa and Itsuko Bacatan join fellow call-ups from the Visayas and Mindanao regions in a training camp on Sept. 5 to 7 in San Julio Realty Field in San Carlos City.
The five will join 15 other Under-16 Girls training pool players from Davao City, Iloilo City, San Carlos City, Dumaguete City, Bacolod City and Bukidnon.
The players that will make the cut will be fielded in the upcoming Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Women’s Championship 2015 qualifiers on Oct. 4 to 9 in Melaka, Malaysia.
The Philippines is in Group D along with Myanmar, Chinese Taipei and Cambodia.
The No. 1 finisher in each of the four groups earns a slot in the AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship 2015 finals next year along with Japan, North Korea, China and Thailand.
Trebo, Bacatan and Jumawan recently represented the country in international competition with the RP Nation Under-14 Girls squad that ended up as runner-ups in the AFC Under-14 Girls Regional Championship last June in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
The Philippines lost to Thailand, 2-1, in the championship match of that tournament.
