5 fave food picks at Roxas night market

IT’S February once again, the month of hearts and of lovers flocking to malls and parks to date. This is a season of love once more. With just less than two weeks before Valentines’ Day, you might already be worrying where to treat your loved ones out for delicious and yet very affordable food.

Fret not because your friends from SunStar will make the 14th extra special for you and your partner without compensating the contents of your wallet.

From just a normal street across Aldevinco and Ateneo de Davao University in the morning, it becomes the Roxas Night Market in the evening full of palatable food you can ever imagine.

Below are the top five food offered at the night market that is considered the public’s favorite as per the different Dabawenyos that we asked. Everything fits your P100 budget. Quality, taste, and affordability of these had already been proven, so now we are sharing them to you. You’re welcome!

1. Filled Buchi (3 pieces for P20)

Available in different flavors like durian, chocolate, matcha, strawberry, and ube, this chewy little ball of buchi coated in sesame seeds is just perfectly affordable at P20 for three pieces. You can even choose one for each flavor.

One of our friends even said the Roxas night market buchi is not like the other buchis that he tried. For others, it would take him two more bites to have a taste of the filling but not the Roxas night market buchi which is generously filled inside.

2. BBQ/Deep fried chicken skin/Proven/Fried Isaw (P5 each)

Remember those cheesy movies you watched before where the girl and the boy go on a date at a fishball, proven, and kwek-kwek stand? Remember how they are both so sweet while offering each other’s stick of isaw? Well, you can also do that at Roxas night market. For P5 per stick of these, you can make your own version of your favorite movie’s famous scene.

Not only do these stalls call for perfect movie scene reenactment, the food they offer are also very delicious. Trust us when we say the crunch you get for every bite of the chicken skin dipped in spicy vinegar is just perfect.

3. Mang Danny’s Ice Cream (P20)

Who has been to Roxas night market but has never heard of Mang Danny’s ice cream? This was the famous ice cream stall where customers fall in long queues just to get a taste. Already opened in different areas in the city, this ice cream stall has started small at the Roxas night market.

Now, it is operating big time and is very popular not only among the locals but the tourists as well. Need we say more? Take your partner to Roxas on the 14th and discover for yourselves why this is in demand.

4. Seafood Marinara (P55)

Located at one of the corners near the pomelo fruit stand and a little after the Aldevinco building, this stall offers generous amount of seafood in their pasta. Their Seafood Marinara, at P55, already includes pasta with 3 shrimps, 2 mussels, and a generous amount of grated parmesan cheese and sprinkles of herbs and spices.

5. Fresh Lemon juice (P35)

For health-buff couples out there, this fresh lemon juice is perfect for you. You can even request the kuya vendor for less sugar to add to your juice. When we say, “fresh”, we mean fresh lemon juice slices floating in your juice. It’s very delicious and just the right juice to quench your thirst after eating all the food mentioned above.

So mark your calendars on the 14th, take a trip to Roxas night market, and make it extra special. Good luck!
