FIVE policemen in Negros Oriental were relieved while being investigated for their involvement in a fight during a basketball match in Dumaguete City a few days ago.

The incident reached the office of Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas, acting director of Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (Norppo), after a video of the incident was posted on the social media last Tuesday.

The video uploaded by Hulagway ug Kasikas sa Dumaguete on Facebook showed an argument between the two teams during the match.

A man named Kurt Kinkito surfaced and reported the incident to Dumaguete City Police Station and alleged that he was hit by the policemen, Biñas said.

He added that Kinkito is also pursuing charges against the policemen.

After seeing the video, Biñas said he met with the policemen and ordered them to submit their written explanation.

The five policemen said the match that happened at the Foundation University gymnasium last March 15 was “very physical,” Biñas said.

He added that the five policemen assigned at the Provincial Intelligence Branch were transferred to the Norppo headquarters effective March 15.

Biñas said the policemen may be suspended or dismissed from the service if found guilty of misconduct.
