50% tax increase for quarrying eyed

A 50 percent tax increase on sand and gravel and other quarry resources was proposed as part of amendments to the 2005 Revenue Code of Davao City.

The committee on ways and means and appropriations, chaired by Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, recently presented before the council the committee report for the proposed ordinance enacting 2017 revenue code of Davao City, amending the 2005 revenue code.

Among the salient features of the committee report include the increase of imposed tax on sand and gravel and other quarry resources from P15 per cubic meter to P30 pesos per cubic meter.

This proposed amendment will cover ordinary stones, sand, gravel, earth and other quarry resources, such as but not limited to marble, granite, volcanic cinders, basalt, tuff and rock phosphate, extracted from public lands or from the beds of seas, lakes, rivers, stream creeks, and other public waters within the territorial jurisdiction of the city.

Meanwhile a P500 increase was also proposed for annual fees for special mayor's permit to be secured by quarry operators.

Based on a reliable source, the finance committee has invited stakeholders to discuss the amendments on the tax of quarry operations.
