5,387 Negros cops sent off to 2 regions

A TOTAL of 5,387 personnel and staff of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Negros Island Region (NIR) will be distributed to the two regions following the dissolution of NIR.

Data provided by Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of PRO-NIR, on Wednesday, September 20, showed that 3,495 personnel will be turned over to PRO-Western Visayas while 1,892 will be assigned to PRO-Central Visayas.

Of the 3,495 policemen to be placed under the supervision of the regional office in Iloilo City, 1,944 were from Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo). Others are from Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), 743; Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB), 274; Class Sinag-Lahi, 315; and Class Masiklab, 219.

They comprise of 158 police commissioned officers (PCOs), 3,121 police non-commissioned officers (PNCOs), and 216 non-uniformed personnel (NUP).

For PRO-Central Visayas, 1,460 were from Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo) along with those from RPSB, 205; Class Sinag-Lahi, 147; and Class Masiklab, 80. They are composed of 66 PCOs, 1,703 PNCOs, and 123 NUP.

Chief Superintendent Edmund Gonzales, acting director of PRO-NIR, said on Wednesday the regional office is planning to hold a simple turn-over ceremony on September 29. However, it can still be moved to October 4 or 5 depending on the availability of representatives from PRO-Western Visayas and PRO-Central Visayas.

"We are still coordinating with the two regions." Gonzales added.

The PRO-NIR expects to have a smooth transition of personnel, logistics, equipment and other properties to the two regional police offices before its official deactivation on October 9.
