SIX persons were arrested on Tuesday morning, March 6, for illegal fishing in the seawaters off Barangay Abugon, Sibonga, in southern Cebu.

Marlon Tan-gaan Laperal, 47; his brother Ronaldo, 49; Karama Gajaliya Tambanan, 60; Jimmy Makatingka Tambanan, 41; Nelson Mahadne, 25; and Agiluz Tambanan, 18, were arrested by the police under Sibonga Police Chief Stephen Amamag-id.

Police said they are not residents of Sibonga and failed to present a permit for fishing in protected waters.

The Laperals are from Barangay Tuyom, Carcar City, while the Tambanans and Mahadne are from Sitio Baybay, Barangay Duljo Fatima, Cebu City.

Seized from them were two motorized boats, fishing gear, and five kilos of fish.

They were charged with violation of the municipal ordinance that bans fishing by non-Sibonga fishermen. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
