THE police arrested six men who were allegedly involved in a recent series of robberies in Balamban and neighboring towns.
The suspects are Jose Montero Jr., 41; Arnel Nacion, 29; Billy Cañedo, 25; Federico Dacallos, 34; Lourdesillo Cabaron, 38; and Julius Cesar Climaco, 20.
Climaco is a son of a recently deceased police officer of Balamban.
They were caught inside two houses in Barangay Arpili, Balamban.
Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Noel Gillamac said the suspects have four other cohorts who escaped arrest.
u201cKahibawo na man ta nga nagsingabot na ang eleksyon basin magamit ni sila sa pagpang-harass sa mga tawo o paglikida sa mga supporters sa usa ka kandidato (We know that the elections are coming and they will be used to harrass people or to liquidate candidates’ supporters),” he said.
The police received information that the suspects were used by a politician who was not named by the police official, CCTN reported.
A joint team of police officers from Balamban and Toledo City with Philippine Army personnel raided the houses last Tuesday past 6 p.m.
An informant tipped off the authorities about the presence of armed men in Arpili.
After the raiding team barged into the house, no one resisted. Some of the suspects were sniffing illegal drugs.
The suspects denied their involvement in any criminal activity.
Seized from them were a KG-9 semi-automatic pistol, .45 pistol, two .357 revolvers, .38 revolver, several bullets, a grenade, drug paraphernalia and a medium pack of suspected shabu.
Three bonnets, camouflage jeans and jacket, helmet and two motorcycles were also confiscated.
Gillamac said the firearms will be turned over to the police laboratory for examination to determine if these were used in past shooting incidents.
