6 women honored for contribution to Baguio community

SIX women were honored this year as the most Outstanding Citizens of Baguio.

The recognition was conferred by the city government and the Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio to Lilia Bautista, Maria Nela Florendo, Basilisa Pimentel, Leonarda Aguinalde, Dona Digna Rosario and Epifania Dao-ey as part of the celebration of the city’s Charter Day.

Bautista, a businesswoman, was cited for providing scholarships and livelihood assistance to those with potentials but are financially restricted.

Florendo and Pimentel, who are teachers, were honored for their efforts to link Baguio’s youth to city’s cultural heritage.

rAguinalde, Rosario and Dao-ey were honored for their leadership and participation in communal activities.

“I’m not after the award. The award is not only for me, but also for the entire community,” Rosario told SunStar Baguio.

“We are all outstanding in our own fields and in our own right. But to be chosen as an outstanding citizen in our city, for me it’s an honor and a great privilege. Mga examples lang kami ng mga kasama kong naka-tanggap din ng award. Sa mga kapwa namin taga Baguio City, they can also do what we are doing,” she added. (With Prelyn D. Manuel)
