70th PAL Interclub Update

BEFROE anything else, I would like to greet everyone. Advance Happy Valentine’s Day! Hugs!

This year, Philippine Airlines (PAL) is going to hold its 70th PAL Interclub Golf Tournament. It will start with the seniors category. And by “seniors,” it means 55 years old and above.

This year, it is in Davao City, at Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club and at Apo Golf and Country Club.

Tournament proper is from February 22-25, 2017. The PAL Men’s Regular is from March 1 to 4, 2017.

So, mark your calendars. If you are not a participant, play elsewhere. Participants will be arriving days earlier to practice and to familiarize themselves with the two courses. As a matter of fact, some of my friends from the US have already arrived. Our city will be festive once again, or rather, continue to be festive.

For months already, it has been an event after event after event. Too many activities, too many visitors and guests. It’s starting to take its toll on my body. Solution? A friend told me to take Stresstabs! But my mom says, “Complete rest!” I will consider both.

Here are the players of Apo Golf and Country Club for the PAL Seniors Tournament: Soc Cadayona (team captain), Manny Nitorreda, Ting Castillo, Larry Pasquil, Larry Miculob, Boy Tan, Joe Tesado, and Jun Serado.

Here are the players of Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and CC for the PAL Seniors Tournament: Joe Marfori (team captain), Randy Cadiogan, Vic Gonzales, Lito Dublan, Deo Cura, Faisal Samanodi, Jorge Segovia, Koichi Shoji

Here are the players of Davao City Golf Club for the PAL Seniors Tournament: Boy Braganza (team captain), Manny Piñol, Vic Noble, Boy Manajero, Frank Buno, GaniGascal, Bong Basilia, and Benhur Villarosa.

Here are the players of Lanang Golf Club for the PAL Seniors Tournament: Bobby Dakudao (team captain), Ricky Pineda, Rainier Cruz, Bernie De Guzman, Dennis Salvador, Pete Veloso, Robert Te and Bong Belen.

Good Luck! Good Luck! Good Luck!

Change topic: Aussie-Pinoy golfer Jason Day, as you know, is currently ranked No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking. For your information, he just signed a contract with Nike for $10 million a year. The deal is that he wears clothing—cap, shoes, gloves, etc. made by Nike. His golf set and golf balls are from Taylor Made.

About Tiger Woods, if you recall, he was like Mr. Nike before. And recently, I was surprised at what I read, and I will share it with you.

Posted January 26, from the brownsvilleherald.com website, “Woods announced Wednesday morning that he has signed a deal with Taylor Made to use its driver, fairway metals, irons and wedges. He already has a Bridgestone Golf deal to play its ball. He still has a Nike contract to wear the apparel. He's not getting paid to use his old Scotty Cameron putter, the one he used to win 13 of his majors.”

There you go, Jason Day and Tiger Woods will be wearing Nike apparel but will be using mostly Taylor Made golf clubs.

Philippine Golf Tour (PGT) Update: The PGT Qualifying School, local and foreign, finished last month. The PGT is back starting with the 2017 Anvaya Cove Invitational scheduled on February 15-18. Go, Davao-born professionals!
