80,000 to join Angeles street party

ANGELES CITY -- The City Government here is expecting around 80,000 people to attend this year’s Tigtigian Terakan Keng Dalan (TTKD) scheduled on October 27 and 28.

TTKD is Central Luzon’s biggest annual beer, food, and music street party that celebrates the city’s triumph over the Mount Pinatubo disaster.

Jay Pelayo, media department chief of Angeles City, said the Fiestang Kuliat 2017 committee has coordinated with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other non-government organizations to secure the place and party-goers during the two-day event.

Pelayo said last year’s number of attendees reached more than 60,000 and this figure is expected to increase since the TTKD is celebrating its 25th or silver anniversary.

“If good weather will prevail on October 27 and 28, we expect that the number of attendees will reach 80,000,” Pelayo said.

TTKD, which means singing and dancing in the street, is considered as the local version of Mardi Gras of Rio de Janeiro and New Orleans and Octoberfest of Germany.

It is an annual event held every last Friday and Saturday of October in a one-kilometer stretch of the MacArthur Highway in the commercial district of Barangay Balibago.
