ILIGAN CITY -- An 81 millimeter (mm) mortar round was found discarded at a dump in Zone 7, Barangay Bagong Silang, Iligan City around 9 a.m. Friday, September 9.
Police Senior Superintendent Leony Roy Ga, Iligan City Police Director, said the 81mm mortar ammunition was concealed in a plastic bag and wrapped with tape.
Ga said the mortar round, however, did not have any blasting component.
The police official said the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Explosive Ordnance and Disposal team safely retrieved the mortar round.
Ga said police had just conducted a bomb awareness seminar for residents of Barangay Bagong Silang on Saturday, September 3 wherein the residents were told about the dangers of improper storage of vintage explosives and ammunition.
