A story of love, perseverance and undying faith

THEY say that Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a transcendent saga of true love, is as untrue and unrealistic as it is dramatic. However, not even the Bard of Avon could have authored a love story this complicated and gripping.

As she walks down the aisle while serenaded by the Compostela Valley State College-Montevista chorale, Cyrille reminisced with teary-eyes all the obstacles she and the man waiting for her at the altar, Melvin, had to overcome. She closed her eyes for an instant, and all the memories came flashing back.

Certain that they’ve found their slice of forever in each other; they agreed to tie the knot on July 22, 2013. They took a leap of faith, like Scarlett and Rhett, like Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, like Noah and Allie.

As she walks slowly, inching closer to the man whom she is about to marry in the eyes of the Lord, she tries to fight back tears. Then, another throng of memories zipped in her mind.

In January 2015, a wonderful development greeted the couple. Allie got pregnant. Despite the delicate state of the pregnancy, they still thanked God for the blessing. They were brimming with excitement for the arrival of their baby, excitedly thinking about their child’s name, where to travel together, and even what they want their baby to become when he/she grows up. Essentially, like all parents, they’ve planned everything for their baby.

But an appalling news enveloped them when their doctor informed them that the baby doesn’t have a heartbeat. Time stopped. Everything blacked out. They felt as if their world ended. After shedding countless tears and overcoming the feeling of despondency, they moved on, trusting that God has other plans for them.

Now, nine years after they met, they finally exchanged vows inside the Parish of Christ the Eucharistic King church with officiating priest, Fr. Edgar Tuling, while surrounded by their families and friends.

Theirs is a story seemingly reserved only for literature and theater. The challenges and roadblocks they’ve had to hurdle have forged their love for one another to become stronger. They succeeded where Romeo and Juliet failed, in the belief that their love will see them through, that everything will fall into place. Not even Shakespeare can anticipate that.
