BANGUED, Abra -- Civil servants of Abra gathered for the culmination program of the 113th anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service last September 28 at the town plaza during a fun run and sportsfest.
More than 600 runners participated in the fun run, which gave Abra a total contribution of P90,000 to the Pamana sa mga Pamilya ng mga Lingkod Bayani from the registration of P150.00 per runner which was made open to the public to make it more interactive and exciting.
Aside from the fun run, a fun ride was also held participated by bikers of Abra and from the province of Ilocos Sur.
Atty. Marilyn E. Taldo, regional director of Civil Service Commission – Cordillera, and Vice-Governor Rosario Bersamin led the awarding of prizes to winners in the fun run and the various sports activities conducted during the month-long celebration.
In the Fun Run, the 5K category men’s division was won by Archie Patubo from youth sector while Menalyn Rabayno, a student, topped the women’s division.
In the 3K Category, Raul Patubo also from youth sector, and Marlyn Lagadan were declared champion in the men’s and women’s category, respectively.
Different agencies and individual players were awarded in the various outdoor sports activities such as basketball and volleyball; indoor games like chess, scrabble, word factoring, games of the generals, table tennis and badminton; and the larong-lahi such as the kadang-kadang, sack race and the tug-of-war.
Two teams dominated the events – the Team of the Philippine National Police for volleyball and "kadang-kadang" women category; tug-of-War, and sack race in both categories while the Provincial Government of Abra Team for basketball and kadang-kadang men’s category.
Champions in the other events were: Chess - Sgt Romeo Manuel of the Philippine Army and Engr. Chopin Bacarra of the DPWH; Scrabble –Tyndalle Llabado of the Bureau of Fire; Dama - Silverio Azusano of the PGA; Games of the generals - Alfredo Bringas and Azziza Gonzales, both from PGA; Badminton - Dr. Denise Bragas of LGU La Paz; and Table Tennis - Edgar Bolante from the PNP.
Governor Eustaquio Bersamin sponsored the CSC Sportsfest for this year’s Civil Service Anniversary celebration with the theme, "Tatak Lingkod Bayani: Isabuhay at Ipagbunyi."
Also gracing the occasion were Col. Paul Atal, Commander of 503rd Infantry Brigade, Phil. Army and his Deputy Commander, Col. Raul Bautista; Lt. Col. Danilo R. Domingo, commander of 41st Infantry Battalion; PSSupt Benjamin Lusad, Abra Police Provincial Director and Mayor’s League President Joseph Sto. Nino Bernos of La Paz.
