Abu Sayyaf arrested, bomb components seized in Sulu

A MEMBER of the Abu Sayyaf Group was arrested on Thursday after bomb-making components were seized from him at a military checkpoint in Sulu province.

Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Task Force Sulu commander, identified the arrested Abu Sayyaf member as Milham Saham, 24, a resident of Barangay Bangkal, Patikul town.

Sobejana said Saham was intercepted and arrested in a checkpoint around 6 p.m. Thursday in Barangay Buhanginan, Patikul, Sulu.

“The troops conducted a checkpoint following reports on the alleged movement of the Abu Sayyaf in the area, resulting in the arrest of Abu Sayyaf member Saham,” Sobejana said.

The troops seized from Saham’s possession several components of an improvised explosive device, an ammonium nitrate fuel oil, detonating cord, electrical wires, electrical tapes, and a circuit assembly.

As of September 8, 299 ASG members have already been neutralized since the all-out war against them started in January this year.

Of the total, 122 were killed, 103 surrendered and 74 were apprehended.
