Adidas donates new school facility in Barangay Budlaan, Cebu

THE Adidas Group, together with the Sports City International Foundation, has donated a two-storey school building in Barangay Budla-an on Monday, August 15.

The building was one of the newly built facilities of the Budlaan Integrated School. It includes three new classrooms for the Grades 1 and 2 pupils and a function hall in the second floor.

Renee Howard, vice president of Sourcing Apparel North Asia, said this is the first large project done in Cebu after Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) hit the country in 2013.

"This dream to build the school started off 2013 after the devastating Typhoon Yolanda," Howard said in her speech.

Howard added that the project is a collaborative effort of different donor employees of Adidas all over the world.

"The devastation from Typhoon Yolanda was quite severe here in Cebu and so all around the world, my office here collected money and donations from employees around the world to be able to do something in Cebu. Once we collected that money, it took us time to figure out what exactly we want to do," she said.

Howard said that Budlaan was personally picked by Annie Sy, manager of Finance of Sports City who happens to have a connection in the place.

The building was officially established last June 2, 2016 after years of conducting a research and collecting funds for it. (Sam Carlve Saberon and Tovya Kaiko Galeon, USJR interns/Sunnex)
