AFP destroy 6 suspected NPA camps in Kalinga

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) discovered and destroyed six suspected New People’s Army (NPA) camps in Kalinga province last week which led to the discovery of materials used in making bombs.

Lieutenant Colonel Gulliver Señires, head of the Philippine Army’s 50th Infantry Battalion (50IB), said on Wednesday, June 7, that the six camps were discovered in Balbalan town in Kalinga last week.

“The camps were discovered in the mountainous and sloping forest in Balbalan,” he said.

Found in the last discovered site were eight fuses believed to be used in making bombs.

He said the sighting was a result of the continuing activity to protect the areas from rebels. Elements of the 50IB encountered the rebel group three times last May.

During the operations, he said the 50IB was able to kill NPA leader Humide Miguel, alias “Marcial” and the surrender of a lady rebel.

At present, he said the military continues its operation against the NPAs in the Cordillera. (PNA)
