REMEMBER the newborn baby Zyrus Gabriel Soringa who was diagnosed with pulmonary stenosis and had to be airlifted to Manila two days after he was born more than a week ago?
He lost the battle with his illness last July 3 but his story may soon benefit those who have to be transported to other parts of the country during emergency situations.
Pierre Jabagat of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) said they’re coming up with a protocol on how to handle a situation similar to that of Zyrus Gabriel. It will be named “Zyrus Protocol.”
Jabagat said it will refer to the transport of patients who need to seek immediate medical attention outside Cebu using military assets.
“It will be a matter of coordination and we will facilitate. A draft of the protocol will be presented and reviewed for approval next week,” he told SunStar Cebu.
On the case of Zyrus, he had to be flown to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila two days after he was born last June 28 to undergo surgery because the medical procedure he needed was only available there.
Commercial planes could not accommodate him and his family because they require that a baby should be at least 10 days old to be allowed in the plane.
PAF’s F-27 (Fokker) aircraft manned by Major Michael Marlvin Manas and his team was dispatched to transport the baby to Manila last June 30.
Hercules, Zyrus’s father, said that although they are in grief, they are still happy that their days-old fighter left a legacy.
“I hope he will be an inspiration to others. Our little fighter made us so proud,” he told SunStar Cebu. (RVC)
