Alabanza seeks stakeholders meet for BCC design

ARCHITECT Jodie Alabanza is calling on locals for a stakeholders meeting regarding the Baguio Convention Center's (BCC) design.

Alabanza is hoping the City Council will facilitate the multi-sectoral meeting to talk about how the BCC contest will proceed as well as the landscaping of areas surrounding the center.

The urban designer said participation of the three schools for architecture must be given roles and areas to be adopted as well as the association of landscapers who will contribute designs for the green spaces.

“Let us encourage everyone to participate and think about the context of the space and building,” Alabanza said.

Alabanza said the convention center does not need a major redesign but a sound plan on how to bring out its best assets.

The local architect added a public and private participation is needed for the endeavor as he pledged his support.

Alabanza said the ethnicity of the Cordilleras needs to reflected as well as the socio-cultural aspects of the region in the design phase and in the crafting of the contest rules.

This developed after Councilor Maylen Yaranon’s crafted a contest for the design of the BCC but has withdrawn an earlier move to have the city fund the P2.5 million cash prize after it was met with opposition by aldermen.

Aldermen opposing the project fear the budget is too high for a contest for the BCC as well as points out the lack of ready funding for the BCC repairs in general, which will make the plans to be culled from the proposed contest unusable.
