A FEMALE patient died while another patient’s mother was hurt when the ambulance carrying them hit a container van on the national highway of Barangay Tabao Rizal in San Enrique, Negros Occidental Sunday.
Police identified the fatality as Diosdada Medina, 55, of Hinobaan town, who was suffering from kidney failure.
The injured was Nariza Ibañez, 53, whose son Randy Ibañez had dengue.
Senior Inspector Rey Molas, chief of San Enrique Municipal Police Station, said the ambulance lost its brake and hit the container van parked beside the road at past 12:30 p.m.
The ambulance was driven by Rackie Boy Obregon, 40, of Hinobaan town.
The container van was parked due to an engine trouble. Its driver was identified as Jessie Doble, 39, of Cebu City.
Molas said Medina and Ibañez, both residents of Hinobaan, were supposed to be transferred to a hospital in Valladolid town.
Medina did not reach the hospital alive. The Ibañez mother and son are still confined.
Molas said that Medina’s death was probably triggered by the accident.
He added that the Medina family refused to pursue charges against the ambulance driver.
