American wanted for child rape arrested in Manila

AUTHORITIES from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested Thursday an American wanted by a court in Virginia for raping a child.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente disclosed that the subject, 53-year-old Teodoro Lumaban Jr., was arrested Wednesday near the US embassy in Manila by operatives from BI's fugitive search unit (FSU) when he was about to renew his US passport.

According to the BI, Lumaban had been hiding in the country for more than three years.

The US embassy said he is a subject of an outstanding arrest warrant issued by a US district court in Virginia where he was charged for sexually assaulting a minor.

Lumaban has been detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig while awaiting his deportation papers.

He has been placed under the BI's blacklist to prevent him from reentering the Philippines. (SunStar Philippines)
