Angel Locsin supports new 'Darna'

ANGEL Locsin expressed full support for Liza Soberano, as the latter takes on the role of iconic superheroine character "Darna".

In an Instagram post, Locsin shared that she sent three comic books to Soberano when it was finally announced that the 19-year-old is the new heiress to the iconic super heroine character.

Locsin said the comics were gifted to her 10 years ago to aid her in portraying the role.

"Now that we have a new Darna, I asked Tita Malou [Santos] to give these to Liza as my gift hoping they can help her just as they helped me," she wrote.

The Kapamilya actress added that just like the iconic stone of "Darna," she's now passing it to Soberano.

"I'm hoping that she'll pass this on to her next successor someday. I wish Liza the best of luck! I know she'll do great," she said.

Locsin also thanked everyone who rallied for her to reprise the role she portrayed in a television series back in 2005.

She thanked ABS-CBN, former network GMA-7 and Mars Ravelo's family for the confidence and trust given to her.

"Sa huling pagkakataon, maraming salamat po sa pagmamahal kay Darna. Salamat po sa former (GMA) & present network ko (ABS-CBN) pati ang Ravelo family sa pagkakataon. Now it's time to welcome our new Darna," she added.

Locsin had to back out from the Star Cinema project after she suffered a disc bulge in the spine. She underwent surgery in Singapore but was advised by her doctor not to do any strenuous activities that could pose damage.

Soberano, on the other hand, was one of the favorites to take on the role.

She was keen to take on the job and promised the moviegoers that she will give her best and not disappoint the fans of "Darna".

"When they offered the role to me, gusto ko po talaga. I hope na mas madami pa akong matutunan lalo. Ang gagawin ko na lang is to give more than 100 percent sa project na ito," Soberano said.

"Darna" will be directed by Erik Matti and will hit the big screen in 2018. (SunStar Philippines)
