ANGELES CITY -- A city official has lambasted some personnel of the Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA) for allegedly discriminating indigent patients.
Councilor Jesus Sangil, during a recent privelege at the city council, has urged for the strict monitoring of hospital personnel including nurses, midwife, and others for discrimination.
Sangil said he will ask the Professional Regulatory Commision (PRC) to cancel the respective licenses of hospital personnel found discriminating patients.
The councilor cited the case of a obstetrics (OB) patient, who recently suffered discrimination from a midwife.
"The midwife who is supposed to attend to medical care nagsilbing interogator sa patient, asking questions which are irrelevant like bakit pinatay ang asawa mo siguro drug pusher. Taga-Cuayan ka pala tapunan yan ng mga sina-salvage among other irrelevant questions," Sangil said.
Sangil recommended the dismissal from service of discriminating hospital personnel (both management and staff) if found guilty.
"Ang mga ganitong issues malimit nangyayari sa mga public hospitals. I wonder why? Dahil ba sa maliit ang salary ng mga nurses o dahil kadalasan mahihirap ang mga pasyente na nagpapagamot dyan? O dahil me attitude talaga ang ilang mga hospital personnel? Bakit me nangyayaring ganyan sa ONA? Hindi pa po tayo konsehal me mga issues na tayong nababalitaan. Nakailang administration na po tayo since 2004 me ganyan na pong pangyayari sa Ona. Less than 5 percent lng po ang mga may ganyang pag uugali na nakakasira sa image ng ONA,” Sangil said.
The city officials are working hard to upgrade the city hospital to better serve the Angelenos, according to Sangil.
"Pinapaganda po ng city government ang Ona tapos nahahaluan ng di karapatdapat. Sayang po ang effort ni Mayor Ed Pamintuan, Vice Mayor Bryan Nepomuceno and the members of the city council na pagandahin ang Ona at serbisyo nito," Sangil said.
The councilor said medical staff who can not bear the heat in the kitchen should resign and find another job.
"Sa hospital dapat mahaba ang patience po natin dahil ang mga kababayan nating maralita nagpapagamot lalo na ang kanilang mga relatives talaga po minsan ay may kakulitan. Tayo naman po na nasa front line ng public service dagdagan ang pasensya," Sangil said.
