ANGELES CITY -- A total of four hemodialysis machines were recently procured and installed at the Renal Care Unit (RCU) of Ospital ning Angeles (ONA) to serve more indigent Angeleños suffering from kidney disease.
The procurement of the dialysis machines was made possible after the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) awarded the city with the 2016 Seal of Good Local Governance last July 31.
Consequently, the city was granted access to the P3.4-million subsidy from DILG’s Performance Challenge Fund.
“These additional dialysis machines will help us expand our renal care services which is intended to our people, especially those who cannot afford the costly dialysis treatment,” said Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.
“It has been five years since we established the city’s RCU and we have been doing our very best to improve our social services and health facilities,” said Pamintuan.
RCU Head Nephrologist, Dr. William Gregory Rivero, said that the brand new units “are truly helpful for ONA since the Renal Care Unit has been serving a great number of patients, whom are mostly less fortunate.”
“Through RCU’s expanded services, we live up to the city’s promise of providing affordable health care to the people,” said Rivero.
To date, ONA’s RCU has 22 hemodialysis machines in which 14 are functional and eight need repair.
Since 2011, the first government-run dialysis center in the region was able to extend a total of 50,173 treatments to 594 patients suffering from kidney disease. (PR)
