Another ‘carnapper’ in police shootout dies

THE second of the two suspected carnappers, who engaged in a police shootout in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, on Monday, August 14, also died a few hours after the incident.

Police Station 6 head Jovil Sedel on Tuesday, August 15, identified the fatality as JR Cruz of Barangay 17, Bacolod City.

He died at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital around 10:15 p.m. after he sustained gunshot wounds in his leg and arm.

Sedel said Cruz was identified by his family after they were informed by their neighbor about the incident, based on a news report.

The other suspect, identified as Mark John Fabila of Barangay Malingin, Bago City, was killed during the encounter with the operatives.

Fabila was previously charged for theft, but the case was dismissed due to the complainant’s lack of interest.

Both were found doing something on a dismantled black vehicle in an abandoned house at Doña Juliana Subdivision.

A chase followed when suspects fired at the policemen while they were trying to escape. The exchange of fire led to their deaths.

Police recovered from the scene were Fabila’s .38 caliber with three fired cartridges and two unfired bullets while Cruz yielded an improvised pen gun.
