Anti-poverty commission set to launch 'Kilos Sambayan'

THE National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) will launch on Tuesday, October 24, the Duterte administration’s anti-poverty campaign dubbed as "Kilos Sambayanan" (Kilos Para sa Sampung Batayang Pangangailangan) Mindanao leg in Barangay Talomo, Davao City.

Secretary Liza Maza, NAPC lead convenor, said in a statement yesterday that the launching is in coordination with the city government of Davao and provincial government of Davao del Norte. The launch will also be followed by a Kilos Sambayanan Serbisyo Caravan in Kapalong on October 26.

"Kilos Sambayanan is a call for convergence and commitment among all sectors of society to address poverty across its many dimensions," Maza said.

The program will serve as the "measuring stick" of the impact of government programs in addressing the 10 basic needs of the poor: food and land reform, water, shelter, work, health, education, social protection, healthy environment, peace and participation.

It was earlier launched in Luzon last July 16 in Delpan, Tondo, Manila.

The launching is also part of the annual commemoration of the National Week of Overcoming Extreme Poverty.

Alleviating poverty is one of the agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte when he won the presidential race in 2016.
