Apalit town officials destroy loud mufflers

APALIT -- More than two dozens of loud motorcycle mufflers recently confiscated by the local police were destroyed by local officials here on Monday in front of the municipal hall.

Mayor Peter Nucom and Vice-Mayor Augusto Manlapaz led the ceremonial breaking of loud mufflers seized from motorcycles plying the thoroughfares of this town, particularly along MacArthur Highway.

Nucom said that the activity is pursuant to Section 94 of the Updated Traffic Management Code of Apalit which regulates the use of mufflers and noise controlling devices in the town.

(In the first place we don’t need loud mufflers because motorbikes function even without it. It is only causing public disturbance especially those that run near schools)

He stressed that such noise-making devices only earn the ire of residents as they disturb and break the silence and peace particularly during night time.

While the ordinance has long been enacted, Nucom said that he still ordered the intensified implementation through installation of police checkpoints in strategic areas to check on those who violate it.

(This will continue. Those who only pass Apalit and don’t know our programs, we will just issue them warnings. But if we see that you really don’t follow rules, we will take it out)
