Araneta-Magsaysay flyover to be finished by November

BACOLOD City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya said Tuesday, September 5, the Araneta-Magsaysay flyover will not be completed in time for the Masskara Festival in October.

“We cannot sacrifice safety over time,” Gasataya said.

He said the construction of the flyover is on target and the completion will be on the third week or last week of November.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) had already finished installing the heavy steel support and the pre-fabricated railings are now being installed.

The Araneta-Magsaysay flyover has total project cost of P365 million which was converted into economic construction cost of P321.2 million using the standard economic conversion factors. The DPWH allotted P32.008 million for civil works only.

Gasataya said the flyover is a necessary infrastructure that presents a structural solution to traffic congestion, and will lower road capacities brought about by an urbanizing metropolis.

Meanwhile, Gasataya said the Congress right now is busy deliberating on the national budget and they are expected to tackle next the bill on the postponement of the village and Youth Council elections.

He added that the postponement of the village elections may pass through the bicameral committee as the House of Representatives and the Senate has different versions of the date of the elections.

The House version is for next village elections to be held in May 2018 while the Senate prefers October 2019.
