Archbishop Caccia to attend Solemn Procession

ORGANIZERS of the 453rd Fiesta Senor celebration confirmed that the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines will be in Cebu to witness the religious activities during the weekend.

Fr. Ric Anthony Reyes, secretary of this year's fiesta committee and media liaison officer, told SunStar Cebu that Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia will be attending the solemn procession and the Sinulog mass on Saturday.

This will be the first time that Caccia will be attending the Fiesta Señor since he was appointed as Papal Nuncio to the Philippines last year.

But organizers have yet to find out if Caccia will be the main presider and homilist during the Sinulog mass.

Palo, Leyte Archbishop John Du would often preside the Sinulog Mass every year.

Reyes said Caccia will also be present during the solemn procession but he will not be walking along the procession route.

Caccia will be accompanied by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.

Caccia, 59, was appointed by Pope Francis as Papal Nuncio to the Philippines on September 2017.

Caccia was previously appointed by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI as Papal Nuncio to Lebanon in 2009.

He formally replaced Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto, who served as Papal Nuncio to the Philippines from 2011 to 2017. (Justin K. Vestil/SunStar Cebu)
