Armm readies for new weather disturbance

THE Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) has placed its Humanitarian Emergency Action and Response Team (Heart) on standby alert to respond to calamity that may occur between the end of this year and new year.

Armm Governor Mujiv Hataman on Friday issued the order following advisory from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) about the possible entry of low pressure area (LPA) this weekend into the country.

The NDRRMC, as part of the preparation, has convened its Emergency Response Preparedness (ERP) Core Group.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is closely monitoring the LPA which is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

It is projected to enter PAR by afternoon of December 30 to early morning of December 31.

The tropical depression will be named Wilma if it enters PAR before the end of 2017 and Agaton in January 1.

Hataman said all provincial offices of Armm’s line agencies have been placed on alert aside from the Armm-Heart.

He said the local government units have been advised to prepare pending Wilma’s landfall.

The governor said they continue the relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas that have been affected by Tropical Storm Vinta, as they prepare for the possibility of another storm following Vinta's path. (SunStar Philippines)
