AN OFFICER of the Philippine Army lost P8,500 in cash to thieves although his car was recovered in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Friday, June 3.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident occurred around 11 a.m. Thursday in Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

Galvez identified the victim as Lieutenant Colonel Freddie Europa, 48, of the Philippine Army, based in town of Labangan, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Investigation showed that Europa went to a photocopy center leaving his sports utility vehicle (SUV) parked at Cerilles Street corner Samsom Street in Pagadian City.

The SUV was gone when Europa returned prompting him to report the incident to the police in Pagadian City.

Galvez said a follow up operation was launched and the SUV was found abandoned around 1:30 p.m. Thursday along Urro Street in the village of Santo Niño, Pagadian City.

She said the personal belongings of Europa were all intact inside the vehicle except his cash amounting to P8,500 was missing.

The vehicle was properly turned-over to Europa after documentation. (SunStar Philippines)
