AsPac Little Leaguers suffer 2nd defeat in World Series

THE young Negros Occidental clouters, representing the Asia-Pacific (AsPac), suffered back-to-back defeats in the ongoing 2017 Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon, with a 7-3 loss to Central’s Floyds Knobs Community Club LL of Indiana.

Anne Patricio opened AsPac’s offense on top of first with a single on a fly ball to the right fielder, but was out after failing to tag up. Rhea May Quilongquilong and Rodayln Villanueva were grounded out in the process while their Central counterparts were also denied a score.

Central successfully denied AsPac in reaching the home plate in the second inning with Joecel Mae Cabato as the only player to advance to the third. AsPac’s defensive error allowed Central to score five runs started by Kylie Franks as Brooklyn Nolot and Katherine Weber added two runs with two outs.

Up by 3-0 in the bottom of second, Central’s Avery Adams scored her team’s fourth on Zoe Couch’s fly ball to the center fielder. Couch then scored Central’s fifth on Taylor Chumbley’s line drive to the left fielder.

AsPac scored two runs on the top of third behind Patricio and Quilongquilong but Central extended their lead to 7-2 on scores from Katelyn Satkoski and Amanda Hess.

Patricio got AsPac’s third score on top of fifth to end the match, 3-7 and slid to 0-2 in the tournament.

The Negrense batters, at press time, are playing against undefeated team Southwest -Lake Air LL of Texas. Southwest, earlier, defeated host-Oregon, 11-1 followed by Latin America, 10-0.
