Assessment of damage to schools sought

THE Local School Board (LSB) chaired by Mayor Beng Climaco approved a resolution Wednesday, asking the Department of Education’s (DepEd) City Schools Division to assess and evaluate the damage to school properties as a result of the disaster that struck the city last week for possible rehabilitation.

The LSB is chaired by Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar as the local chief executive.

The resolution, which was authored by Salazar, also urged the Schools Division Office to review its existing disaster resiliency plan for prevention or mitigation of risks as a consequence of disaster.

Salazar also cited for instance the case of school fence that collapsed due to landslide in the village of Limpapa at the height of the heavy rains spawned by the weather disturbance called inter-tropical convergence zone.

She said the Division Office should conduct a survey on all schools affected by last week’s calamity that brought about massive floods and landslide in 37 villages of the city. (SunStar Philippines)
