LOOKING for authentic Islamic books and products is made easy since Darussalam Bookshop opened its first branch in Davao City last year.
Darussalam Bookshop is a Multilingual International Islamic Publishing House with the main headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It has branches in different continents like United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, and South Africa. Asian branches include United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and India.
It was founded by Abdul Malik Mujahid of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The first branch of Darussalam Bookshop in the Philippines is located at Roxas Avenue, Davao City. It is managed by Ismael Español together with his wife Cheema.
He recalled how early last year, their family was in Saudi Arabia and they saw how accessible and convenient it is for the Muslims there to purchase Islamic books and products than in the Philippines.
They decided right then to bring in Darussalam Bookshop in the Philippines. They went to Riyadh to talk with the founder himself. They went through a meeting and a deliberation. The Español family then was given an exclusive right to supply Islamic books and products to our country.
Cheema said that anyone who might want to franchise Darussalam Bookshop in Luzon or Visayas must contact them or visit the shop.
Last October 16, Darussalam Bookshop opened a branch in Cotabato. Ismael and Engineer Johari Tayuar graced the inauguration ceremony of Darussalam Cotabato.
The Darussalam Bookshop along Roxas Avenue opened on July 16, 2016 and has since catered to Muslim clients from anywhere in the Philippines.
“Since July, we had very good sales for the first and second months. As a matter of fact there were bulk purchases made in Quezon Province, Cotabato and Marawi. This bookshop is already known worldwide. So when people discovered there’s a Darussalam Bookshop branch in Davao, they were surprised and excited,” Cheema said.
Before this branch opened in the Philippines, their customers would even order at the main branch in Saudi Arabia just to get copies. The books that Darussalam Bookshop offer are exclusive to the bookstore branches located in Davao main branch and Cotabato which they also ship nationwide.
Darussalam Bookshop has Qur’an, Hadith, and Tawheed. They also have children’s books, inspirational or self-help books that are still anchored to the Muslim faith and tackle different concerns on all aspects of life, women’s books, and even science books.
They also offer souvenirs like shirts, giveaways, and little toys. They have clothing section where abayas, hijabs, face veils, gloves, and other related items can be found.
The bestsellers include books from all sections; tawheed, children, women, science and Dawah Qur’an/Hadith, tafseer, and Islamic rulings are also available by volumes and other general books. Book prices range from P155 to P2,999.
They see the opportunity to open the first Darussalam Bookshop branch in the Philippines as a means to deliver authentic knowledge to non-practicing Muslim and better understanding of Islam.
