Bacolod city councilor to Mayor’s Office: ‘Repair BGC roof leaks’

BACOLOD City Councilor Sonya Verdeflor has urged the City Mayor’s Office to facilitate the waterproofing and repairs of roof leaks in various offices of Bacolod Government Center (BGC).

Verdeflor said the General Services Office, City Engineer’s Office, and the Office of Building Official should lead the repair to prevent building-related disease and consequential damages on inventory.

She added that the BGC building, since its completion on August 8, 2008, is subject to maintenance concerns and presently faces the “mother of all” maintenance concerns-roof leaks.

“It is important to deal with roof leaks right away because if water starts dripping inside the building, it can create several major consequential damages such as causing walls, floors, and ceilings to deteriorate to the point that it also damages inventory, furniture and equipment inside the building," she added.

Verdeflor said wet walls, ceilings, and insulation are breeding grounds for molds and bacteria growth in and around a roof system causing building-related diseases such as colds that spread through the office, allergies, asthma, fever, chills, headaches, and body aches.
