Bacolod council okays CCTVs for Social Development Center

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) through the City Mayor’s Office to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the premises of Social Development Center (SDC).

The resolution, authored by Councilor Bartolome Orola, was approved during the regular session Wednesday.

The resolution stated that Article 3 of Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) provides that in all actions concerning children, whether undertaken by public or private social welfare institutions, courts of law, administrative authorities or legislative bodies, the best interest of the child shall be a primary consideration.

Orola said the installation of the CCTV within the SDC area could deter crime or any act of lawlessness, thwart future violations, monitor the activities of the kids, visitors, and the goings-on at the center.

He said the CCTV could record evidence and sort out whether claims made by complainants are correct, appropriate or true.

“This resolution is in accordance with the recommendation of the Commission of Human Rights,” he added.

Orola said the CCTV should be installed at the main entrance of the male and female quarters.
