Bacolod councilors optimistic on IPM performance

SOME officials of Bacolod City are optimistic that new trash hauler IPM Construction and Development Corp. will deliver what is expected of the company in its collection, hauling and solid waste management services contract with the city.

The Metro Manila-based firm has a contract of P59.433 million, or P14.858 million per month for the period September 2, 2016 to December 31, 2016.

Councilor Ricardo Tan said he wants to see if the contractor will be able to perform well.

“Their track record is impressive during their presentation at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council). But I would like to see if their actual performance will lead to the total clean up of Bacolod which is the best indicator of their performance,” he added.

“If the contractor will not do good, I will do all everything necessary to legally enforce the provision of the contract,” Tan said.

Councilors Em Ang and Caesar Distrito said it is quite early to expect a lot from the new contractor considering the backlog in the collection of garbage.

“First of all, it inherited three weeks worth of uncollected garbage,” Ang said.

“So far, in areas that have been covered by their collection trucks, I can see that they are efficient in the handling and disposal of garbage. I have also received some positive comments from residents in areas that were already served. We will be closely monitoring their performance and immediately make the necessary adjustments,” she said.

Distrito said, “We are hoping that in a week's time they will be able to finish all the backlog and start the normal collection process. We still cannot make any clear assessment until maybe for 15 days. There are still many garbage to collect due to the slowdown of collection.”
