Bacolod Generals to hold tryouts March 4-5

AFTER taking a break last year, the Bacolod Generals American-Tackle Football are back on the field as they prepare for the 2017 Season of the Philippine-American Football League in September this year.

Scheduled to play at least seven games this year starting September 9, the Generals will meet Manila Vanguards in an away match and a featured game against South Korea Dragons on September 30.

Other teams on their path are Manila Rough Riders (October 14), Manila Warriors (October 28), and Manila Wolfpack (November 4).

Team manager Reverend David Garcia said with their successful stint in just a couple of years, they were able to draw more than 5,000 fans watching their last game at Panaad against four-time Arena Ball Philippines champion Manila Bandits for the Armed Forces Appreciation Day held on August 29, 2015.

The Bacolod side was undefeated in all their games since the team’s creation three years ago beating teams from Manila and Iloilo in devastating fashion before the Manila Bandits ambushed them in a close contest.

“Aside from promoting American Tackle Football, we also want to provide venues of alternative activity and good citizenship mentoring our city youth through the use of sports, social activity, and teaching our youth the effects of drugs and alcohol on their families, employment, and our communities,” Garcia added.

Related to Generals’ preparation, a clinic and tryout will be held on March 4 and 5 at the Bacolod City National High School.
