Bacolod to develop Alangilan property

BACOLOD City Evelio Leonardia said the city is planning to develop its property in Barangay Alangilan to build a camp site or recreation area.

The development of the property was approved during the City Development Council meeting at the MassKara Hall of the Bacolod Government Center on Monday, April 10.

“The city has a total of eight hectares of property in Barangay Alangilan, and I believe that has been a sleeping giant,” Leonardia said.

He said the City Government owns 14 hectares in Barangay Alangilan, but during the time of former Mayor Alfredo Montelibano he donated the six hectares to the public high school in the area.

The mayor said he has seen the aerial view of the property and there are portions that are still forested.

“We will see to it that this development will affect minimal trees only and we have already the plan,” Leonardia said.

The mayor also proposed to construct a swimming pool and other amenities.

Leonardia said within his term, he wants to start the project and he considers securing a loan to fund the project.

“I was told that the Department of Finance has a program for the local government to fund a project at a very, very minimal interest rate. If we can have this, why do we have to wait for tomorrow if we can do it today?” the mayor asked.
