Bago City, Cebu City shine in PSC-Pacquiao slugfest prelims

BAGO City’s Kim Catedrilla, Rodel Gamo, Joshua Belicena and Nel Tambanillo shone during the weekend’s preliminaries to secure slots to the Visayas Quarter Finals of the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup in Naga City, Cebu on February 24 and 25.

After his three teammates scored opening day victories, Tambanillo stopped Calbayog’s Jovan Molleno via referee-stop-contest in 51 seconds of Round 2 before hometown supporters at Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center.

Cebu City’s bets Angelo Bulasa, John Paul Gabunelas, Johnro Taneo and Limbert Cainap also ruled their respective divisions.

Gabunelas won by a split decision over Bayawan City’s Rudni Camani in the youth boys light flyweight (46-49 kg.) division while his teammate Cainap triumphed via unanimous decision against Elmar Douma of Salvador Benedicto in the youth boys flyweight (52 kg.) category. Bulasa and Taneo had earlier won their fights in Day 1.

Other qualifiers were Sipalay City’s Nixon Anito and Jay Torela Jr., Cadiz City’s Michael Adolfo and Mark Alob, Geniel Alit and Herlan Gomez of Victorias City, Gaudfrey Lubiano and Jhorhe Pasculado of Omega Mandaue, Kane Paul Redondo of Salvador Benedico, Kent Perocho of Escalante City, Joenel Francisco of Murcia, and Renz Lee Teves of Bayawan City.

Semi-finals for Visayas will be held on March 10 in Antique while the regional championships will be staged on March 31 in Maasin City.
