Baguio council condemns killings involving cab drivers

A CONDEMNATION on the spate of killings involving taxi drivers has been made by the Baguio City Council with a plea to police to solve the murders.

During the regular session this week, the family of slain taxi driver Roberto Agram Albino, asked for help from city officials as they thanked aldermen for assistance received.

Albino’s case is being handled by the Tuba Police office after he was held and killed by still unidentified suspects on August 19 along Marcos Highway in Sitio Badiwan at Tuba town.

Councilor Faustino Olowan is set to craft a resolution condemning the crime including a plea from Tuba police to immediately solve the case.

Relatives of Albino sought the help of establishments which may have video footage of the cab when passing through Marcos highway on the evening of the crime to give police a lead on the crime.

Albino’s death came in the day after Angel Umali Sarmiento was also killed by thieves after looting his daily earnings and left him for dead at Asin Road, Baguio City.

Vice Mayor Edison Bilog, head of committee on peace and order, said a meeting with taxi operators and transport groups is underway.

Bilog is also mulling on the conduct of a summit in order to discuss and prevent such incidents in the city. (Maria Elena Catajan)
