Baguio eyed as Milo Marathon host anew

AFTER two years of absence, the largest and longest running national marathon is eyeing its return to the Summer Capital next year.

Milo sports executive Lester Castillo said Baguio City is being eyed as one of the major cities where the multi-distance foot race as one of possible venues in 2018.

Castillo said Baguio remains one of the top choices because of its climate and has become one of the top stops of the race, owing the large number of participants.

“Baguio is always considered but we have to bring the races to other places and hopefully for next year, Milo Marathon will return,” added Castillo.

Baguio City last hosted the marathon in 2015 where some racers failed to show up despite the inclement weather as local organizers pushed through with the event.

More than the competition, the event has become staunch advocate of Philippine sports and Filipino athletes which serves as a platform that empowers children nationwide.

For the past seven years, the National Milo Marathon’s Help Give Shoes advocacy, in partnership with Department of Education, has inspired 70,000 aspiring athletes to fulfill their dreams by donating brand new pairs of running shoes and for this year, the advocacy will be donating 5,000 pairs to underprivileged school children.

The Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Department of Education, and the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association endorsed the 41st National Milo Marathon. (Roderick Osis)
