Baguio villages urged to hold cleanup drive

SEVERAL villages through their respective village chiefs were warned to conduct site cleanups, through memoranda 222-2017 and 223-2017, as issued by Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan.

Upper General Luna, Gov. Pack road, Pinsao proper, T. Alonzo, Guisad Central and Guisad Surong, Cresencia Village, Military Cut-off, AZCKO, Cabinet Hill, St. Joseph Village, Kayang Ext., Session road, and Marcoville villages through their heads were directed to take appropriate action to clean the identified areas and ensure the compliance of their constituents to appropriately dispose of their garbage, and guarantee cleanliness.

This developed after photographs with details like time and place of prohibited acts under Republic Act 9003 (The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000) were submitted by Basura Patrol Operations of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through officer-in-charge regional director Reynaldo Digamo to Domogan.

Prohibited acts include littering in public places, canals; occupying areas in open dumps and landfills, open burning of solid waste, and burying of wastes in flood-prone areas. The operation or establishment of open dumps is also prohibited.

Basura Patrol groups were earlier created to monitor and document the compliance of mentioned prohibited acts.

A report from the concerned punong barangays is expected within 15 days.

In his letter, Digamo stated “as partner in implementing RA 9003, we look forward to your cooperation in the protection of our environment.” (PR)
