Barangay 10 is first ZoomBacolod champion

BARANGAY 10 was adjudged champion in the first Gwapo ZoomBacolod Dance Fitness Competition at the amphitheater of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Bacolod City Saturday.

The first Gwapo ZoomBacolod is an initiative of Councilor Ricardo Tan.

The champion, a Grupo Hataw sang Dyes, which received P50,000 in cash and a trophy, bested other 14 participants.

Barangay 6, the Magnificent Squad team, was chosen first runner up, and received P30,000 in cash and a trophy.

Barangay 35, team Unkabogable, was also chosen second runner-up, with P20,000 in cash and a trophy.

The Asenso Silay Zumba Group of Silay City was also adjudged third runner-up and received P10,000 in cash and a trophy.

Other participants were the zumba teams from Sipalay City, Barangay Pahanocoy, Manapla, Barangay Cabug, Isabela, Barangay Estefania, Barangay Villamonte, Barangay Banago, Barangay Handumanan, Barangay Sum-ag, and E.B. Magalona.

The judges were Christo Cruz of Street Boys; Bennie Almonte, the Retromaster; and the dance diva Regine Tolentino.

Tan said that because of the success of the first Gwapo ZoomBacolod competition, he expects a bigger and more exciting second ZoomBacolod olympics next year.

He said all the residents of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental can still join in next year’s competition.

“I was so inspired of the strong support of the people of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental. It is a great success,” he added.

Tan noted he launched the ZoomBacolod program on November 4 to promote healthy living through dancing.

Zumba is an exercise fitness program created by Colombian dancer and cyclist/choreographer Alberto "Beto" "Power Pedal" Perez during the 1990s.
