Barangay registration sought for tourists

DAVAO City Councilor Mabel Sunga-Acosta passed on first reading the ordinance requiring foreign visitors in the city who will stay in hotels, inns, lodging houses, and in private homes for more than 24 hours to register in the barangay.

In her privilege speech last week, Acosta said that the name, date of birth, permanent address and passport details of foreigners will be listed down by the barangay officials within 24 hours of arrival.

She added that these are among the ordinances which the Davao City Peace and Council (CPOC) members proposed in the meeting last October 19.

Aside from this ordinance, she also sought the council’s support for the passing of the ordinance for the passing of an ordinance requiring all owners of sea vessels below three tons to register in the municipality and city.

“The Local Government Units shall coordinate with the PNP maritime group regional office 11 (Davao Region) for the marking and tagging of the said water crafts,” Acosta said.

She also added that former peace and order committee chair Nilo “Small” Abellera Jr. has also endorsed the regulation, sale and distribution of Philippine National Police, and Armed Forces of the Philippines uniforms.

Acosta said that these ordinances are “important and urgent,’ which is why she moved the ordinances for first reading for the purpose of exigency.

She is hopeful that these ordinances will be passed before the year ends.

Acosta attended her first City Peace and Order Council Meeting October 19, after she was named as the peace and order committee chair last month.

The Davao City Council moved for the vacancy of the post previously occupied by Davao City Councilor Nilo Abellera due to attendance issues.

But Abellera already clarified that all the absences he committed were all valid since he was advised to have three to four weeks rest by his doctor due to his health condition.
