Bataan prepares for 76th Araw ng Kagitingan

ACTIVITIES in line with the 76th Araw ng Kagitingan have been prepared for the commemoration of the heroes’ valor during World War II.

“As early as March 24, runners and bikers will commemorate the Bataan Death March through a Freedom Trail starting from Mariveles town to Capas, Tarlac,” Provincial Tourism Office head Christina Enriquez said.

It includes a 160-kilometer competitive team race, non-competitive cycling for big bikers, and a torch-passing relay for youth groups.

The Department of Trade and Industry, on the other hand, will be holding a trade fair on April 4-9 at the Balanga City plaza.

“Qualified micro, small and medium enterprises in the province will be given the opportunity to feature their local quality products,” Enriquez added.

Meanwhile, competitions for elementary and high school students will be conducted by the Department of Education.

“A history quiz will be held on April 4-5 in Bataan People Center, Capitol Compound, Balanga City for around 255 participating elementary and high school students,” Enriquez said.

Other activities include Parangal sa mga Beterano, Senior Citizens’ Night, Bataan Cooperatives and Entrepreneur’s Night, Foot Parade, Military Band, Parade of Floats, and Koro Bangkal Magbikin Concert.

The highlight will be on April 9, with President Rodrigo R. Duterte leading the commemoration at the Dambana ng Kagitingan in Mt. Samat, Pilar town.

Thousands of students, teachers, tourists, and visitors are expected to join the commemoration including officials from the embassies of the United States and Japan. (PR)
