Bazaar evolution

BAZAAR and trade fair scene in Davao City is thriving and evolving.

This momentum was further strengthened in the recently-concluded “2017 The Great Araw ng Dabaw Trade Fair and Bazaar” last March 16 to 19 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center.

Spearheaded by the Mocha Productions, the event gathered nearly 200 exhibitors hailed from different parts of the country as far as Cebu, Iloilo, and Manila.

But Mocha Events Productions chief executive officer (CEO) Jette Angela Villafuerte - Te emphasized that Davao and Mindanao-based micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were prioritized.

“Still, most of our exhibitors are from Davao. Of our exhibitors’ profiles, 60 percent are Davao-based,” she said. Also, exhibitors from the cities of Tagum and General Santos, among others were present.

Capping the event with success, the event captured a diverse market from class A to C as mixed offerings from food, clothing, pasalubongs, even real-estate firms participated.

“When you say bazaar, people would really visit it. There is really a market especially in Davao, plus since the event was a combination of a bazaar and trade fair, as expected, people flocked. This is one of our biggest events,” Te shared.

She added that six years ago, the bazaars and trade fairs they organized really started on Kadayawan Festival.

For Kadayawan Festival 2017, Te hinted that bigger and grander event will be staged.

“Peak season for bazaars and trade fairs are really on festivals like Kadayawan. The total number of visitors will reach 10,000 a day.” she said.

Te also mentioned that the reason why events like this survived is because a lot of exhibitors depend on bazaars and fairs.

“Every now and then, regular exhibitors keep on asking on when our next events will be so they can prepare. About 20 percent of the exhibitors are online sellers,” she said.
